Heart's Quest for Shaped Cards and Tags #1 in Jan 2026 design team projects

why: This posting showcases my design team efforts for HQFSCAT or Heart's Quest for Shaped Cards and Tags challenges blog. #1 in 2026 continues the anything goes on shaped card and/or shaped tag theme. Project #1 is a heart-shaped tag that I've inked, added an ink wood rose and three parts of the tie.  Project #2 is an arch top slimline card in gorgeous blues, white, light grays/silver and bits of purple tones for Happy New Year 2026!

when: #1 in 2026 starts January 2 and ends on January 31. 

what: Project #1: heart shaped tag 

how-to & vendor notes for #1: great to add to tiered tray for decoration, add more cording or gingham fabric strip for a tie/hanger to put on a tree or hang from a cabinet door knob, put on an anniversary or Valentine's gift bag

1. laser cut wood heart DIY decoration with twine (part of a pack) = Crafter's Square

2. three tones of red alcohol markers for heart and rose = Arteza

3. laser cut wood rose DIY decoration (part of diff designs pack) = Crafter's Square

4. red cording (came in a three color set) = Crafter's Square

5. red gingham fabric came as wire edged ribbon= Crafter's Square; wire sides were trimmed off

6. white glue = Elmer's

1C. Mix It Up; new on Jan 1st; theme of mixed media and opt of using ribbon; On my project #1 there are several inks used on the wood heart shape with a red inked rose adhered on top then red and white plaid ribbon strips + cording + twine used for a bow/tie

25. black fine tip marker = Sharpie

26. black stamp pad = perimeter edging = Hero Arts

1. journal notebook has peach color grid/graph paper sheets and has an elastic band enclosure = bought at Dollar General store

2. black, orange, peach, green colored pencils = Crazy Art, Crayola and Liqui-Mark

3. circles made with a dual-sided tape roll's center plastic ring and a cardboard smaller ring from decorative tape for my stencil templates

Why? Blogger artisan LB has done a Mandala Monday series for several years now and it spurred me to do something of my own that alliterated with Monday. So the famous painter Piet Mondrian's geometric design paintings became my starting point of inspiration.
